BELONGING,
BE-LONGING
“Belonging, Be-longing” is about my life in between the two words that share the same alphabetical configuration, but have two different meanings due to a simple “-, a hyphen, a space” in between the words “be” and “longing.”
This collection is a meditation and a reflection on who I was, who I am, and whom I am becoming. And most importantly, to whom and where I really belong.
Just like how animals shed their skins in order to “grow” out of their temporary shells in order to become something “greater,” we also constantly shed our identities such as home, ethnicity, family, friends, and many more. I wanted to reflect the idea of “shedding” or “growing out” in the way each garment gets put on the body as well. All three looks in this collection are made without any hardware such as zippers and snaps. They are put on the wearer with ties instead.
